The Facts...

Because the prices of food increased very rapidly, hunger in the world is getting worse every year. Now, 1/7 of all people in the world is not fed enough. 25,000 people die every day because of hunger now. It means every 6 seconds, a person die. Even though little kids could survive, they could not have taken enough education to improve their countries. In addition, climates are getting crazy all over the world, especially poor countries. They have droughts, floods, and earthquakes. Also, there are often wars among countries. With there all reasons, people in poor countries are not likely to be happy with their life conditions today...

It has been 6 months since big earthquake attacked in Haiti...

WFP has been supporting Haiti from the day when the earthquake attacked. It has sent water, food, and clothes, and helped to reconstruct the city. WFP plans to make Haiti safer and have more food, so it is going to cooperate with the Haiti government in order to improve the lives at Haiti.

WFP School Meals

Now, more than 350,000,000 kids are suffered from hunger. Most of them cannot eat meals at school. Some of them are not able to go to school because they are poor. WFP is helping those kids to provide school meals at school so that kids can be fed enough and study at school. Some kids go to school because they can eat! In addition, if kids could study at school, they would be able to help their home countries someday.

About the Day at WFP

This time was the last time to visit the international organizations. Since I visited all 5 organizations, people, who planned this opportunity, asked me to help them to prepare for this lecture with them! I put desks, chairs, water for the speaker, and tea and cookies for students. I felt really happy because I could be a part of the member, who made this opportunity.
After I finished preparing, I was just an audience though. WFP is so famous that there were many students on that day. Even though WFP is a famous international organization, the office looked still small. People at WFP said it is enough for WFP Yokohama office, because few people were working at office, and most of workers were in other countries. The lecturer was supposed to be given by a man from Bangladesh, but he went to somewhere out of Japan on that day, so a Japanese man did a presentation for us. This time was also really interesting because WFP has one of the most serious problems to solve in the world.
I asked a question, which I could not ask last time. The questions was "When WFP has similar or same problems with FAO, WHO, or any other organizations, would WFP cooperate with them?" The answer was yes. A man, who gave a presentation said WFP often has meetings with other organizations to talk with them since WFP has one of world biggest problems.

After finishing this, I was reflecting all lectures of 5 organizations on the train to my home. Some of them were not well-known organizations, but all 5 organizations were truly interesting. Before I went visit these organizations, I did not even know how serious the world's problems are. I felt that I want to get a job, which can involve international relationships like the United Nations. However, there are many more international organizations, which are not the United Nations. I am going to research about the organizations for international relationships and decide what major I am going to take at college.
